Hello! I’m Mrs. Diaz. I teach 7th grade English CORE at El Portal Middle School! I grew up in Escalon and went through the Escalon Unified School District. I feel so honored to teach where I went to school!
When I was in high school, I played tennis, basketball, and I was a cheerleader, so I understand what it is like to have a busy schedule while trying to maintain good grades. After I graduated high school, I attended California State University, Stanislaus to play tennis. Unfortunately, playing tennis at the collegiate level was not what I expected, so after two years at the small university, I was ready to venture out and relocate. I transferred to California State University, Chico where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education with an emphasis in creative writing. I have always enjoyed writing stories because it is one area in which I have complete control over the outcome. I received my Single Subject Teaching Credential from University California, Davis. Additionally, I also received a Masters in Education from UC Davis. I completed the first half of my student teaching at Winters Middle School in Winters where I taught 6th grade for the first semester. I completed my final semester of student teaching at West Campus High School in Sacramento where I taught 9th grade English. Previously, I taught at Whitmore Charter School of Arts and Technology in Ceres. Although it was a wonderful experience, I knew my heart was still in Escalon. This is my 6th year teaching, and this school year, I am most looking forward to sharing my love of English with others and getting to know my students!
My favorite color is green, and my favorite snack is popcorn with cheese. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because I get to see all of my family and friends. I coached tennis at Escalon High School for three years and absolutely loved it! I discontinued coaching because my husband and I decided to start a family. I’m proud to say that we welcomed our daughter, Devyn Harper Diaz, on August 7, 2017. Hands down, it was the most amazing day of our lives. She is beautiful, funny, and perfect. Of course, I’m not biased or anything. :)
Lastly, I absolutely love teaching. My mom is a teacher at Escalon High School and truly inspired me to become a teacher, too. I love working with students, teaching English, and establishing a safe, fun, and positive learning environment.
Thank you so much for taking time to read about me! Please email me if you want to know more or just want to say hello!
